I actually found this an interesting read and intend to read again at some point in the future。

I have had this book for many years and never finished it。 There are many famous quotes from the book, especially in first-person shooter video games like Call of Duty, such as "all war is based on deception。" I was required to read it recently for an assignment。 What I like about this version is it provides context and a background of what was going on in ancient China to put the words of Sun Tzu into context。 The actual translation of the book title is "Sun The Master's Military Methods。" Gene I have had this book for many years and never finished it。 There are many famous quotes from the book, especially in first-person shooter video games like Call of Duty, such as "all war is based on deception。" I was required to read it recently for an assignment。 What I like about this version is it provides context and a background of what was going on in ancient China to put the words of Sun Tzu into context。 The actual translation of the book title is "Sun The Master's Military Methods。" General Sun was not the true author。 It was likely a scribe who admired the general who wrote it。 There is some deliberation as to whether General Sun even existed。 Regardless, history points to General Sun & Confucius as contemporaries during that time period。 Confucians felt that the aristocracy during that time was too bloodthirsty and hungry for war。 The author picked a General as a master of war to argue with the moral philosophers about what was proper and necessary for society at the time。 There is a lot of wisdom and sound advice。 Some of it is outdated but still fascinating and interesting to read。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A rather small book with lot of information and well written, one could argue why one should read this book, I'd suppose because it's relevant in different areas of life and interesting as well。 For the fact that, it was Witten in 5th Century B。C。 tremendously well job done。One of the lines "If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him。 If he is in superior strength, evade him。 If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him。 Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant。 I A rather small book with lot of information and well written, one could argue why one should read this book, I'd suppose because it's relevant in different areas of life and interesting as well。 For the fact that, it was Witten in 5th Century B。C。 tremendously well job done。One of the lines "If your enemy is secure at all points, be prepared for him。 If he is in superior strength, evade him。 If your opponent is temperamental, seek to irritate him。 Pretend to be weak, that he may grow arrogant。 If he is taking his ease, give him no rest。 If his forces are united, separate them。 If sovereign and subject are in accord, put division between them。 Attack him where he is unprepared, appear where you are not expected。 。。。more

I found this book very interesting。 The first section what is the tech straight through。 The second section was the book with intermittent commentary。

This book definitely deserves a permanent place on my bookshelf。 As a true classic, of which it's reputation proceeded, it does not disappoint。 The commentary expansion provided by Lionel Giles adds to the understanding of many of the enigmatic verses。 I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys strategic undertaking in any capacity (military, business, sports, etc。)。 However, I think Sun Tzu made this book primarily for military purposes。 This book definitely deserves a permanent place on my bookshelf。 As a true classic, of which it's reputation proceeded, it does not disappoint。 The commentary expansion provided by Lionel Giles adds to the understanding of many of the enigmatic verses。 I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys strategic undertaking in any capacity (military, business, sports, etc。)。 However, I think Sun Tzu made this book primarily for military purposes。 。。。more

Sun Tzu has written a manual that should be followed by generals to secure victory in battles。 Each strategy is the concise representation of a vast thought that can be expanded as much as one can to prove it。 I found that the book consists of strategies to follow when his army is greater than the opposing army。 Whenever one finds facing against an army of the greater number, Sun Tzu advises to flee or to come into an agreement, but in history, we can find a smaller army beating a greater army。 Sun Tzu has written a manual that should be followed by generals to secure victory in battles。 Each strategy is the concise representation of a vast thought that can be expanded as much as one can to prove it。 I found that the book consists of strategies to follow when his army is greater than the opposing army。 Whenever one finds facing against an army of the greater number, Sun Tzu advises to flee or to come into an agreement, but in history, we can find a smaller army beating a greater army。 A few of the recurrent strategies in the book are:1。tWhen able to attack, seem unable; when using our forces, seem inactive; when near, make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, make him believe you’re near。2。tSupreme excellence consists of breaking the enemy’s resistance without fighting。3。tKnowing yourself and the enemyMajor strategies are based on deception, patience, quickness, and opportunities that are presented by the enemy himself。 Some of the useful strategies for this generation can be:1。tCleverness has never been seen associated with long delays。2。tThe general who wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple before the battle is fought。3。tThe quality of a decision is like the well-timed swoop of a falcon which enables it to strike and destroy its victims。4。tThe clever combatant looks to the effect of combined energy and doesn’t require too much from individuals。 Hence his ability to pick out the right men and utilize combined energy。 。。。more

I was sceptical about my decision to pick a book that narrates the art for war but now I’m so composed about my choice and believe this is one of the books everyone must read as besides the lessons to fight a war rightly this book explains about how to avoid any conflict and why it should the priority。

TLDR: Duh (with few interesting tidbits here and there) :) In seriousness, it's a classic, quick read, won't waste much of your time even if you're not into military strategy。 Mostly common sense by now, but few largely undiscovered gems remain。 TLDR: Duh (with few interesting tidbits here and there) :) In seriousness, it's a classic, quick read, won't waste much of your time even if you're not into military strategy。 Mostly common sense by now, but few largely undiscovered gems remain。 。。。more
